Ms Holden was removed from her position yesterday after the Governing Council of THO South advised the government they'd lost confidence in Ms Holden's ability to do her job.
Health Minister Michael Ferguson said she had been returned to her former position as chief executive of the Southern Tasmanian Area Health System because her contract for that position still existed - even though the job didn't.
He said the STAHS organisation and Ms Holden's position had been rolled into the THO structure when it was introduced in 2012.
``Michelle O'Byrne signed up a five-year contract for Ms Holden just two months before her organisation was due to no longer exist, so now we are stuck with that,'' Mr Ferguson said.
``I'm taking advice on how to handle this, and I can assure Tasmanians that we will protect their interests through this process.''
Mr Ferguson did not say whether Ms Holden would turn up for work on Monday.
Tasmanian Labor has been contacted for comment.
