A 19-year-old Burnie man is in the North-West Regional Hospital in a serious but stable condition after an early-morning crash on the Bass Highway at Howth in the state's North-West.

Emergency service personnel were called to the single-vehicle crash just before 5am.
The man, who held a learners' licence, was riding a 2014 red Honda CBR500. He sustained serious injuries in the crash.
Police say he was wearing proper motorcycle apparel at he time and the motorcycle was a LAMS approved vehicle.
Traffic was diverted around the crash scene for about four hours while police conducted investigations.
The cause of the crash is still being investigated at this stage.
