A $3 million helicopter moved parts of the Tangent Structures' cantilevered lookout yesterday, after forecast bad weather delayed proceedings last week.
The lookout was manufactured in Hobart and was transported to the Denison Street car park where the chopper lowered four parts of the structure to the Duck Reach site for welders to assemble.
Co-director Heather Rose said the helicopter was flown in from Hobart.
``It is hard in Tasmania to find helicopters that have good lifting capacity so we used resources from Hobart because they have a lot of experience in lifting loads to Antarctica,'' she said.
``It is a very tricky thing to do as the tangent itself is very heavy and we had to break it down into four parts, and because it was a hot day [yesterday], it changes the helicopter's ability to be able to lift it well.''
The nine-metre long and 2.7-metre wide lookout will be officially opened by Premier Lara Giddings on Friday.
The $230,000 project was funded by the state government.
