Ernest John Scott, 56, appeared in the Launceston Magistrates Court yesterday.
Police Prosecutor Kelly Brown said Scott was intercepted by officers acting on a tip-off in Warring Street Ravenswood in 2010 .
Scott was taken to police headquarters in Launceston where he returned a blood alcohol reading of 0.212.
At the time he was unlicensed.
Representing himself Scott said at the time he believed he was allowed to drive after checking with Service Tasmania.
On the day in question he had taken his car to a property to be worked on and was ``fed'' alcohol, he said.
After a fight occurred he left in his car but a woman had phoned to tip police off about him driving.
``I was set up ... that's wrong,'' he told Magistrate Simon Brown.
Scott was unable to recall several drink-driving convictions listed on his record because of a poor memory.
Magistrate Brown advised him to seek legal representation because he was facing jail if the convictions on the record were accurate.
Scott was remanded in custody until February 24.
