Bass Liberal MHR Andrew Nikolic yesterday announced that the federal government would provide more than $7 million towards five projects in his electorate.
The program will be administered by the federal Infrastructure and Regional Development Department, which will do a value-for-money assessment against the program's guidelines to ensure transparency in funding decisions.
Funding recipients have been asked to provide detailed project information including project outcomes and benefits, planning and cost and delivery timeframes.
"The Community Development Grants Program will support needed infrastructure that promotes stable, secure and viable local and regional economies," Mr Nikolic said.
"I was delighted to show the Assistant Regional Development Minister Jamie Briggs several of these projects during his visit to Launceston last week and I look forward to continuing to work with all project proponents to help implement these economically productive initiatives and deliver genuine benefits to the people of Northern Tasmania."
Funding of up to $7.176 million will go towards:
- $25,000 will assist with repairs to facilities at George Town Cricket Club.
- $3 million for the redevelopment of the North Bank Precinct in Launceston (total funding will be $6 million, with help from other sources).
- $1.25 million will assist with upgrading grounds, drainage and new lights at Invermay Park.
- $2,454,000 will assist with the North East Mountain Bike Trails in the Dorset Municipality.
- $447,500 will assist with the stormwater harvesting and irrigation project at George Town Sports Complex.
