Launceston RSPCA animal shelter manager Lorraine Hamilton said the day at Riverside's Tailrace Park was organised as a fund-raising event.
Attractions included dogs having their picture taken with Santa, doggie fashions on the field, musical mutt mats (like musical chairs), a ``waggiest'' tail competition, a fetch the newspaper race plus the chance to try food and drink and various pet products.
``It was also about people going out and celebrating having a dog in the family and having fun,'' Mrs Hamilton said.
``Having a dog is great for your health because you have to walk it and you meet so many people doing that.''
Another feature of the day was highlighting dogs from the shelter that were available for adoption and Mrs Hamilton said the charity had found homes for almost all of its dogs. But she urged people to keep supporting the charity because it had constant costs, including a large electricity bill to keep the dogs and cats warm in winter and washing bedding every day.
