They're supposed to operate in secrecy, but locals immediately noticed two Australian Collins-class submarines when they showed up on the Tamar River this morning and were guided in to dock.

Aquarium manager at Seahorse World in Beauty Point Jesse Chippindall said HMAS Dechaineux appeared at around 9.30am on Wednesday morning and docked shortly afterwards at the TasPort wharf barely 50 metres away.
He identified the other sub as HMAS Rankin, and said it sailed up the river around about an hour after and docked at the wharf at Bell Bay.

He said he saw some of the crew outside the boat after it docked, but otherwise they have stayed aboard.
"I saw afew of them running about before, but I have not seen any close up or spoken to them," he said.
The Royal Australian Navy and TasPorts have been contacted for comment.
