Transport Minister Michael Ferguson confirmed the first of the two new ships was still expected to arrive on schedule next year, despite supply and labour difficulties in war-affected Europe.
Both ships are being constructed in Finland by Rauma Marine Constructions.
"Today we'll be able to show how the current vessels are able to carry 1400 passengers, but the new ones will be able to carry 1800," Mr Ferguson said.
The new vessels will have 300 cabins and four kilometres of deck lane capacity.
TT Lines chief executive officer Bernard Dwyer said this increased capacity should help to cut down on the long queues for caravan and campervan owners wishing to sail.
He said more capacity on the ships would be a boost to the state's economy.
Mr Dwyer confirmed potential buyers for the older ships, which entered service in 2002, has already been received.
The old ships will be sold to pay part of the debt of the two new vessels, he said.
