Windy weather to hit North-West on Monday, SES, BOM warn

SES regional manager North-West Colin Smith said the SES was working closely with the Bureau of Meteorology to monitor and prepare for the weather.

"Windy conditions are forecast in the North-West during Monday including the Waratah, Arthur River and Zeehan areas. While there is no severe weather warning issued at the moment, windy conditions could lead to the falling of trees weakened by the strong winds last weekend," Mr Smith said.

"People in the North-West should be proactive and prepare their properties which includes tying down loose items such as outdoor furniture and play equipment.

"The public need to monitor the SES and BOM websites to remain aware of severe weather warnings as they arise."

Inspector Shane Le Fevre warned motorists to be alert for potential hazards including fallen trees and to delay non essential travel where possible during periods of high winds.

"When damaging winds follow recent heavy rainfall, this increases the chances of trees falling so people must also be aware of this potential and drive accordingly," Inspector Le Fevre said.

"We're also asking motorists to please be patient and prepare for potential traffic delays if emergency services and other agencies such as Tas Networks are responding to fallen trees and other potential hazards."

It follows last weekend's extreme weather, during which more than 15,000 properties lost power, multiple people needed rescuing and a woman was killed by a falling tree.
