Eric Radford, 22, pleaded guilty to driving while disqualified on November 11 last year and to using an unregistered and uninsured motor vehicle in Longford.
Radford received an eight-week suspended sentence last year for evading police.
An official from the Department of Corrections told Magistrate Ken Stanton that Radford had barely co-operated with a Community Correction Order and had failed to attend a Sober Driver Program.
Radford, who was not represented by a lawyer, told the court that he had prioritised work so that he could pay off his fines.
He said that he was a shearer on properties all around Campbell Town.
"Does shearing have a season?" Mr Stanton asked.
Radford said he didn't know.
"You are a shearer and you are not sure of shearing season dates," Mr Stanton said.
"I'm trying my best," Radford said.
The court heard that free buses from Campbell Town would be able to transport Radford to Launceston to do community service work.
"You have been given community service as a step down from imprisonment, you can take a day off," he said.
A police prosecutor made an oral submission that his suspended sentence be activated.
"I'm being asked to send you to jail now, you need to talk to a lawyer," he said.
After a short adjournment duty solicitor Lucy Flanagan submitted that the sentencing process be deferred so that Radford could engage with the Community Correction Order.
She said he would attend the Sober Driver Programme.
Mr Stanton adjourned the matter for sentence until April 29 at 2.15pm.
