For The Examiner's Empty Stocking Appeal, Launceston's Carols by Candlelight has traditionally been a significant fundraising event.
However, for those who more rock than Jingle Bells, another fundraiser is hoping to encourage locals to dig deep this festive season.
Local band AMG are no strangers to playing gigs around Launceston, but wanted to go the extra mile this holiday season and give back to the community they call home.
"We're a local band we've been playing around for a few years now," bass player Michael Bailey said.
"So for us, this is something we can give back. But more importantly, we can give to such a great appeal."

The gig will be held at Sporties Hotel on December 23, with Sporties venue manager Kristie Chase generously donating the space for the event in addition to kicking off the fundraiser.
"We're going to donate $500 straight off the bat to get it started," she said.
"It'll be a great night and it's two days before Christmas so everyone should be in a good mood."
There will be no cover charge or entry fee for the gig, instead patrons are encouraged to donate what they can to the Empty Stocking Appeal.
"We talked about is a band and decided we wanted to give something back. It's a great appeal and something we can do locally," Mr Bailey said.
"Leading into Christmas it's something a bit fun and exciting too.
"We're a Launceston band and we're very proud of being a Northern band, although we play around the state this is our home."
Now in its 113th year, the 2021 Empty Stocking Appeal has so far raised $38,672 of its $80,000 goal.
The appeal benefits four regional charity organisations - Launceston City Mission, The Salvation Army, The Benevolent Society and St Vincent de Paul and stays within the local Launceston community.
Mr Bailey said patrons should expect a mix of classics and covers with a twist, but most importantly "a whole lot of fun".
The band said if the gig proved to be a success with locals, it could grow to become an annual event.
"It's something we're open to, for us giving something back is an important part of being a part of a community," he said.
AMG's Empty Stocking Appeal fundraiser will be held at Sporties Hotel on Charles Street on December 23 at 6pm.
You can also donate to the appeal in person at The Examiner's office at Level 2 113 Cimitiere Street, at various Northern Tasmanian newsagents or via direct debit bank transfer.
