The alleged drunk driver, of Rokeby, was pulled over about 5.30pm on Monday in Jericho after police received reports of a silver Toyota Prado travelling dangerously on the Midland Highway at Bagdad.

Police allege the car swerved across the road, narrowly avoiding oncoming traffic, before striking a traffic island and continued travelling north.

The 37-year-old was taken into custody and recorded a breath analysis reading of 0.166, which was more than three times the prescribed legal limit.

"This driver's behaviour is concerning, it put themselves and others in danger, and risked the life of the three-year-old child who was in the vehicle at the time," Tasmania Police's First Constable Shane Leek said.

The woman has been charged with multiple offences including driving a motor vehicle whilst under the influence, exceeding the prescribed alcohol limit and having an un-restrained child in the vehicle. She will appear in the Hobart Magistrates Court at a later date.

First Constable Leek said it was fortunate on this occasion no one was injured or killed and reminded the community of the dangers of drink driving.

Anyone with dash cam footage of the vehicle around the time have been asked to come forward.
