According to Tasmania Police Senior Constable Shannon McMahon, the renewed push for police presence in the area following a recent spike in crime around the city.
"It's disappointing that there still are members of the public doing the wrong thing, but we're here to make sure that everyone is safe," she said.
Operating on side streets to keep from disturbing traffic, officers set up along George Town Road to perform an array of checks and ensure drivers were in compliance with road rules.
The cross-department effort included officers from the Western Division, Northern Drug Investigation Service and Launceston's uniformed officers.
Constable McMahon explained that the family violence division was also out, hoping to cross-check members of the public against the division's records.
"There are still family violence offenders outstanding in the northern district, and by being present there's a chance that we can place them under arrest," she said.
During the four-hour operation, officers conducted more than 198 breathalyser tests, but made no drinking-related arrests.
One individual was arrested for an outstanding warrant and another person was issued with a summons for possession of a controlled drug.
The operation also picked up three unlicensed drivers and one unregistered vehicle.
Also out with the unit was resident police dog 'PD Fang' and his freshly appointed handler Constable Gavin Storay.
Constable Storay was appointed Fang's handler earlier this month and said the new partnership was going "really well".
"We're travelling a lot and we're always busy," he added.
