One of Launceston's longest running non-profit organisations has been given a boost to their funds, with $35,000 already raised from their charity event, with the final tally of donations to be even higher.

The 2021 Capri Ben Elephant Ball held by the Benevolent Society was a success on Saturday night with the annual event at the Country Club Casino.
Society chief executive Rodney Spinks was thrilled with the overwhelming generosity.
"Once we factor in ticket sales and other donations it will be a substantial amount. We had a very generous group of people attending which was wonderful," he said.
"People were ready to get out and support us, especially as we missed the event last year.
"It's a core event for our funding to ensure we can provide our services to the community. It allows us to continue to provide our clients with social workers and food relief and financial hardships."
The ball was started in 2014 and is the main event and biggest fundraiser for the year for the Benevolent Society, who rely largely on government grants and public donations.
Featuring dancing, food, drinks while raising money to help those in need the sold out event was attended by 200 people. The annual ball was cancelled last year due to COVID-19 restrictions but the society was excited to be able to bring back the ball this year.
The night kicked off with a three- course meal with the entertainment following in the form of local band Once Bitten. Committee member Rob Anderson was pleased with how the night turned out.
"We had a band which were very good as the floor was full all night with people dancing. We had live auctions and silent auctions and a raffle," Mr Anderson said.
"It was a very successful evening people were very generous with their bidding, which was great to see. We had some great prizes. The most sought after was the two nights stay at the Saffire at Freycinet.
"It was at capacity because of COVID due to the limit of people we were able to have. All in all it was a very successful and the money will go straight to helping the community."
The Launceston Benevolent Society was founded in 1834 and is the oldest operating welfare agency in Australia.
They provide emergency support and assistance to those in need through many services including food vouchers, clothing and financial assistance.
