NORTH Festival set to shine spotlight on Launceston hospitality.

Cityprom has teamed up with Eat it Tassie to announce the official launch of NORTH, a two-week celebration of hospitality venues and producers across Tasmania's North next month.

The main aim of the new food festival is to showcase quality venues in the city and invite those attending to see what's happening in bars, restaurants, cafes, wineries and pubs across the city and the Northern region.

The festival is described as a "series of bite-sized events celebrating Tasmania's North".

Eat It Tassie's director Erica Sheldon-Collins says the event is about telling Tasmania's story to Tasmanians - in this case through food and drink.

"It's all about our local producers and local venues that are really providing us with great experiences day in and day out. So we want to champion those places," she said.

"We think the impact of the festival for these venues will be huge. The last year has been tough, but venues are keen to get creative. It's giving the venues a space to be a bit louder about who they are and what they are about."

The festival includes well-known Launceston businesses such as Earthy Eats, and Alchemy and also new businesses in the dining scene, such as Stelo at Pierres and Feast Restaurant and Bar in Yorktown Square.

Cityproms's executive officer Amanda McEvoy says the event will be a great new addition to Launceston's event calendar.

"We are spoiled for choice with quality venues and new cafes and restaurants are opening at a rapid rate in the centre of Launceston too," she said.

"This is an opportunity for them to put on a special event and for the public to get out and explore Launceston on foot and attend unique events and discover new locations.

"We are confident that the festival will grow to be an annual and highly anticipated event."

The festival will have many events throughout the city such as mystery bar tours, a progressive dinner across multiple venues, meet the producer sessions and numerous food options to entice the appetite of festival goers.

"The festival further secures Launceston's reputation as a food and wine destination, in line with the bid to become a UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy," Ms McEvoy said.
