Joining Launceston in 2018, the 32-year-old took the reins from Sam Lonergan in 2019 and said staying was a simple decision.
"We've put a lot of time, effort and emotion into building our program and oddly enough I feel like we've still got a lot of growth within our team," he said.
"A number of our premiership players from the last two years are still in their early 20s.
"Probably more importantly, the competition's got real substance, there's a number of good things happening - some of the Southern teams have taken a real deep dive into building their program."
Producing five new premiership players on Sunday as well as re-invigorating the careers of Joe Groenewegen and Josh Woolley, Thorp said stories like that furthered the decision.
"You see the reward for effort that a lot of these younger guys and older guys have with different obstacles they've got to navigate in their lives.
"To see how happy they are at the end of this season makes it all worthwhile."
Admitting there was outside interest in securing his signature, the lure to continue building the program and seeing how strong it can become kept him on board.
The three-time premiership coach also hasn't ruled out playing on.
"I didn't officially retire this year obviously for a reason," he said.
"We like to be really professional with making sure that we've got the appropriate depth should we need it and oddly enough, it just turned out that we would need it [and] it will probably be the same next year.
"Whilst I'm getting on, I still keep in reasonable shape so I'm certainly not officially going to retire because you never know and this year was a good indication of how important it is to make sure you cover all bases."
Thorp, Jack Donnellan and Jack Tuthill were referred to the match review panel but won't miss 2022 action, while fallout from the quarter-time melee will be handled by management.
