Two people have been seriously injured.
The highway is blocked north of Brady's Lookout and south of Lanena Crescent.
Motorists have been advised to avoid the area and seek an alternative route until the scene is cleared.
A crash has also occurred on the Bass Highway near Carrick which has caused significant traffic congestion.
The highway is partially open and there are no reported injuries at this stage.
