Tasmanian Fire Service records largest graduate intake with seven graduates headed to Launceston

Seven of the graduates will join the Launceston Fire Brigade as part of the largest recruit course in TFS history.

The Launceston recruits include Zhaan White, Elizabeth Allitt, Brody Baker, Emma Lade, Jobi Harper, Georgia Douglas and Adam Smith.

TFS course manager Adam Doran said the significance of the graduate class could not be understated.

"This group is the largest we've ever had so the significance for the Tasmania Fire Service is huge," he said.

"To have 30 new people going to our brigades statewide is a massive injection of new people that were really needed."

The fresh graduates enter the force at a time of change for the TFS, with TFS chief officer Chris Arnol retiring after 36 years of service.

Mr Doran said that the older veterans of the service would help develop the graduates skills further.

"We as people like to pass on our skills and abilities but also our shared experiences," he said.

"By getting more people in, the service we can provide is only going to get better."

The graduate intake continues a successful year for the TFS which had seen great success with its junior program earlier this year.

Mr Doran said being a firefighter is a career open to anyone.

"So there's six [women] on this course which is fantastic, fire fighting is not a male dominated thing anymore, diversity in numbers is everything," he said.

"If you want to be a firefighter you really should put your hand up."
