Rested Greater Western Sydney Giants are ready for Tasmanian visit to face North Melbourne at Blundstone Arena

Like many of its rivals in the footy world at present, injury has hit hard with the break coming at a good time, midfielder Tim Taranto said.

The Giants have named acting captain Toby Greene and midfielders Matt de Boer and Adam Kennedy for a clash which will be vital for their finals chances with GWS presently two games outside the top eight

"We have been battling a few injuries like a lot of other clubs, and we will be getting a few back,'' he said.

"But it is good to have a bit of a break as well and everyone is ready to go this week.

"Having some seniority and experience out there will be good, and they will be guys that will do a good job for the group I am sure.

"But with a couple of those injuries we've been able to bring in some young kids who have been able to come in and do their job, and that brings huge confidence to the entire club and the coaches as they have the faith to bring in the young guys who can get the job done. It shows that the club is heading in the right direction."

The Giants' most recent outing was their 64-point loss to Brisbane at the Gabba, one which Taranto said was a case of his side simply being outclassed by a powerful side, but there was one key lesson out of it.

"I just think if you are five percent off mentally with your fundamentals going into a game like that against a quality opposition it can bite you,'' he said.

"They capatilised on all our mistakes and and they played really well and it ended up being a big blow out.

"But for us, we just need to be ready to go whoever the opposition is 100 percent with our mindset to hold us good stead."

Taranto, the second pick in the 2016 national draft, said the key aspect against David Noble's North Melbourne [which has named Robbie Tarrant, Will Phillips and Jaidyn Stephenson] would be "bringing the contest and the pressure".

"That is really what we hang our hats on, the way we move the ball the way want to and control the pace.'' he said.

"We [the midfield] started off the year probably not playing as well as we could, but the last five or six weeks we have really gelled together and we are getting a real strong connection.

"There will be some new kids there [at North] who we haven't come up against, like Tarryn Thomas who is playing more midfield now, but obviously [Ben] Cunnington is their main guy that we will look to put some time into potentially."

Taranto, 23, is averaging 29.7 disposals, 5.1 marks and 5.5 tackles in 2021, and had a season high 36 disposals against the Lions.

Leon Cameron's Giants will also be looking to celebrate a special milestone in style on Sunday with Sam Reid playing his 100th game, more than 12 years after playing his first.

"He is a special player, a special person and a really good friend of mine,'' Taranto said.

"Just to see the way he has gone about it and the attitude he has had to his football and the professionalism and the ruthlessness he has, the way he goes about it is impressive and I am just so rapt for him that he has reached this milestone. It is a credit to him as he is a never-say-die person and gives everything at every single training session and every week and I am really happy for him."

Sunday will be the Giants' seventh match in Tasmania for premiership points. It has a 2-2 record in Hobart, as well as a loss and a draw at Launceston's UTAS Stadium.

It will also be the fourth of eight matches scheduled in the state this season, with the potential for extra games again put on the agenda by Premier Peter Gutwein on Thursday. He said the state "stands ready" to host a round 14 doubleheader [North Mebourne and Brisbane and Hawthorn and Essendon] if needed.
