The City of Launceston council will begin its annual fuel reduction burn program from March 15.
The aim of the program is to reduce existing fire hazards, to protect property and other assets, and to assist in the regeneration of degraded bushland.
This year the program will include burns at Cataract Gorge Reserve and Quarry Road, Carr Villa Flora Reserve Memorial Park, Granville Street Reserve, Havelock Street Reserve, Russell Plains and the Launceston Waste Centre, Woods Reserve, and Youngtown Regional Park.
Each burn is estimated to take one day to complete.
IN OTHER NEWS:
Though the fire intensity is expected to be low, there may be flames, smoke and ash.
The fuel reduction burns will only be carried out when weather conditions permit.
People with medical conditions are advised to organise a plan to avoid smoke from the burn.
The program is expected to continue until May.
The schedule will be updated on the council's website and Tasmania Fire Service website.
