Summerhill house fire leaves Van Diemen Avenue property damaged

Police are investigating a deliberately lit fire at Summerhill overnight.

A Tasmania Police spokesperson said the blaze completely destroyed the house on Van Diemen Avenue, causing damaged to an estimated value of $250,000.

EARLIER:

A Summerhill house has been severely damaged by fire overnight despite firefighters best efforts to reduce the damage.

Emergency services were called to the blaze in Van Diemen Avenue about 9.30pm on Tuesday.

A Tasmania Police spokesperson said the fire was quickly extinguished by multiple crews from Tasmania Fire Service, however the house suffered serious damage to an estimated value of $250,000.

No surrounding houses were damaged by the incident.

The spokesperson said the resident of the house was not home at the time and no injuries were reported. They said investigations will continue to determine the cause of the fire.
