The pair, alongside North-West duo Taran Armstrong and Reyne Smith, were among 46 (25 women and 21 men) picked for the camp which will take place at Basketball Australia's centre of excellence within the Australian Institute of Sport from February 27 - March 2.

Injured for parts of 2019 as she moved to Canberra to became a part of the centre of excellence, Wise looked set for a big 2020, which was denied due to COVID.

She spent the summer in Launceston before returning to the mainland ready to attack 2021, identifying the under-19 national side - known as the Gems - as a major goal in an interview with The Examiner in December.

Deans became the youngest player to win Launceston Basketball Association's MVP in 2020 and will step out for the North-West Thunder in NBL1 competition this year alongside his Australian Emus ambitions having missed national representation over the past 12 months.

North-West product Armstrong signed with California Baptist University last year to play alongside his brother Tre, while Smith is also set to be a part of the United States college system, signing with Winthrop University.

Basketball Australia's head of high performance and national teams Jan Stirling described the camps as "the start of an important journey".

"Australian basketball through its connected high performance pathway and elite coaching continues to produce world-class talent, which is reflected in the strength of the squads that have been named for our preliminary camp later this month," she said.

"Both the Emus and Gems will be led by experienced coaching personnel at this year's worlds and we look forward to seeing the progression of both squads over the coming months."

The men's under-19 world cup will be held from July 3-11 with a location yet to be confirmed, while the women's tournament is set to be hosted by Debrecen, Hungary from August 7-15.
