The first of 12 events to celebrate Campbell Town's bicentenary kicked off on Sunday with a picnic in the park.
The town's bicentenary committee member Emily Greenhill said when they were setting up, people did realise it was established in 1821.
"People were walking past and didn't realise, so it is it important we recognise it," she said.
"It was founded May 31, so we will be having a formal event then."
Next month a senior's lunch is planned, followed by 10 other events this year in the area.
- March 6: Lake Leake trout fishing competition
- April: Historical guided tours and open day, date to be confirmed
- May 31: Formal ceremony with a performance by TSO
- June 13: Bicentenary golf tournament
- July 4: St Lukes Church service and organ recital
- August: A historical farm tour, date to be confirmed
- September: School sports day, date to be confirmed
- October: Campbell Town gardens tour, date to be confirmed
- November 20: Bush dance at the Wool Pavilion
- December: Christmas Carols, date to be confirmed
Miss Greenhill said the Northern Midlands Council has supported the event by waiving some of the fees, but all of the funds to put on the events was from sponsors, donations and fundraising initiatives, such as a raffle.
