Remembering the events of the Holocaust is important to help prevent something similar ever happening again, says a Launceston Rabbi.
Rabbi Yochanan Gordon joined with Jewish people around Australia to mark Holocaust Remembrance Day with a virtual ceremony on Wednesday.
Rabbi Gordon said unfortunately the events of the Holocaust were being forgotten and it was important to not let that happen.

He said sadly there had been a rise in anti-Semitism in Launceston and across the globe in recent years.
"We have got to be there to make sure that none of the past gets forgotten. That they should never be repeated, they should never happen again," rabbi Gordon said.
"All it takes is a small amount of good people to stand on the side and not do anything for the evil to take over."

A Holocaust survivor from Launceston took part in the Australia wide ceremony passing the candle to his grandson during the service.
Rabbi Gordon said the best way to combat people spreading hatred was to focus on being positive.
"You can see how easy it is for people to be crazed into hatred - in the same sort of manner we can shift people towards positivity and bring out goodness in every single person around us," he said.
