Mr Deka said the whales were all dead upon discovery.
However, 30 whales remained stranded and alive at the original stranding site and crews were working hard to continue the rescue effort.
Marine and Conservation Program wildlife biologist Dr Kris Carlyon said the stranding is the biggest in Tasmania's history, and likely the biggest in Australia's history - both in terms of the number stranded and the number dead.
