Before the 27-year-old arrived the Pies were 0-3, now, they've won two on the trot.
Joining mid-season recruit Ethan Conway and former captain Sam Rundle as three ex-Blues on Glenorchy's list, Cleary spent three years at Windsor Park while completing an education degree before joining the Pies in 2015.
The New Norfolk native was a premiership player and full-back in the 2016 TSL team of the year before joining VFL outfit Coburg, where he teamed up with now-Pies coach Paul Kennedy.
It was Cleary who alerted Kennedy to the Pies' coaching vacancy upon Aaron Cornelius' exit in 2017, and the two have since teamed up again with great success.
"He's been really important - with Cam Goodsell being out injured, having Tom come in has been really good for us," Kennedy said.
"He's brought a real energy to the club - I coached Tom at Coburg so I've got a relationship with him but the way he's come in, he's such a positive personality.
"Probably at the start of the year with us having a lot of players out and losses to start the year and it being the middle of winter when it's probably the hardest time of the year to get really enthusiastic, having Tom come in has just been fantastic for us.
"Down back he's a bit of a Rock of Gibraltar in the last line and it allows for some of our guys like Daniel Joseph and Zac Webster to be pretty aggressive knowing they've got good coverage behind them."
The Magpies host North Launceston at 2.30pm on Saturday.
