The veteran wicketkeeper's Trevallyn outfit may have lost the match to perennial champion Longford, but for Whyman the day was about much more than the result.
Four years ago Whyman was the driving force behind the club fielding a women's team for the first time.
The club's 2016-17 season came and went without victory, but there was improvement to come.

After finishing third on the ladder last season, Trevallyn knocked off Bracknell in the preliminary final to qualify for its maiden decider.
Whyman was the sole remaining player from the club's first-ever XI.
"Going from no-one at the club wanting to play a few years back to actually getting a team to a grand final it was just so awesome, we were so happy we got there," Whyman said.
"We were the best performing team at the club last season, so when we got to the grand final we had all the guys come and support us which was really amazing to see because obviously we're not up to their standard as yet.
"But the women's cricket has picked up.
"There were eight teams in [the TCL] last year from the beginnings of when we had four teams four or five years ago, so it's just continuing to grow."
A past captain and coach, Whyman was thrust into the role again last year when new skipper Casey Brown went down with an injury early in the season.
Despite the tough start, the team went on to complete a successful and enjoyable season.
"I can't explain how proud I am of the girls - especially the girls from last year," Whyman said.
"We went out to mostly have fun which we did and we managed to win games and get to a grand final so it was an unbelievable year and everyone got on so well.
"We're a diverse team of 15 to 16-year-olds up to the eldest being 53.
"It's good getting all the wives, girlfriends and that of the club coming in and having a bit of fun as well."
Fixtures for this year's competition are yet to be announced.
