Among those that have nominated by the public are the Pride, Titans, Warriors, Thylacines, Trailblazers, Timbers, Mavericks and even the Brewers.
The campaign to name the team which will enter the competition in 2021-22 was launched a week ago, with the Spirit, Mountaineers, Freeze, Thunder and Wild also having their hats thrown into the ring at www.nbltas.com.au.
The NBL has received more than 5000 names in the past seven days after asking Tasmanians to help create the identity for the team, which was locked in earlier this month when the NBL reached its agreement with the state government.
"We've been delighted with the response so far and the range of names suggested by Tasmanians,' NBL owner and executive chairman Larry Kestelman said.
"There is clearly a passion for the new team which will be Tasmania's own.
"The campaign still has three weeks to go and we encourage everyone to put forward their suggestions and we then come up with a shortlist before announcing the name later this year."
The Devils and Tigers have continued to be very popular but are unlikely to be available due to their use by other sporting clubs and codes.,
Up to three team names can be lodged per person at www.nbltas.com.au, with people who enter in the running to win season tickets, a signed jersey and chance to meet the team before their first game in the 2021-22 season.
The NBL team has hit the ground running, recently advertising the first key roles for the side, with "strong interest" recorded for the chief executive position.
That was one of five [along with commercial manager, head of operations, membership and community engagement manager and marketing coordinator] roles advertised earlier this month.
Expressions of interest can be sent to jobs@nbl.com.au. Expressions of interest for prospective corporate partners in the new team can be made by contacting business@nbltas.com.au.
