The Parks and Wildlife service has confirmed it is investigating an incident in which penguin habitat was allegedly cleared at Bicheno last weekend.

The clearing allegation was first made on Facebook by the chairperson of the Friends of Bicheno Penguins.
A PWS spokesperson said rangers responded to the allegations last weekend.
In other news:
"Rangers attended a site at Bicheno on the weekend to respond to allegations of illegal clearing of foreshore land," the spokesperson said.
"An area of interest was identified on crown land and a formal investigation has commenced."
FoBP chairperson Lyn Hatton first raised concerns about the clearing on Saturday July 11.
She said they were working hard to educate the Bicheno community about the importance of preserving penguin habitat.
Ms Hatton said FoBP had written to the council about the alleged clearing.
"We understand that council may have access to some signs that can also be placed in the foreshore area to face the house to remind the homeowner that what they have done is not acceptable," she said.
She said the community was happy with how quickly the Parks and Wildlife service had responded to their complaint.
"The response from the community of Bicheno [has been] incredibly positive with people praising [the] PWS ... and people offering to help in regeneration and weed removal work," Ms Hatton said.
Ms Hatton said FoBP was looking to help rehabilitate various coastal areas which provide habitat for the penguins.
She said National Tree Day August 2 may be a good opportunity to do that.
