Mark Ronald Campbell, 46, was placed on a drug treatment order by Magistrate Simon Brown after pleading guilty to numerous counts of burglary and stealing.
In the Launceston Magistrates Court on Monday, Mr Brown ordered that Campbell comply with the terms of the drug treatment order rather than serve a prison sentence.
"You have 19-month prison sentence hanging over your head which you won't have to serve unless you breach its conditions," Mr Brown said.
"Thank you for the opportunity, Mr Brown," Campbell said.
The court heard that in May, Campbell was not suitable for a drug treatment order because of a lack of suitable accommodation.
However, Mr Brown bailed him on the condition that he abstain from using illicit substances.
"It has gone well since and you have done a lot of positive work since your release," Mr Brown said.

In February, he stole a bicyle from a medical centre car park and used an angle grinder to repeatedly break into Roll Cycles where he stole electric bikes worth about $19,000. Campbell also stole bikes from Cycology and Sprung in March.
He was also convicted of several shoplifting counts including the theft of whisky from Dan Murphy's.
He was in the company of another man when he broke into Launceston Mitsubishi and stole $1500 worth of items including fuel, a vacuum cleaner and drill.
An air compresso,r which belonged to a United service station, was also taken.
The court heard that Campbell had served jail terms in Tasmania and interstate in the past and had failed a previous drug treatment order in 2013.
