Competing over three ladders - seniors, under-21s and women's - premier division outfits Scottsdale and Bridgenorth are the only two clubs to field three sides.
Deloraine and Bracknell are set to compete in seniors and under-21s, while division one sides Old Launcestonians and Meander Valley will play in both the seniors and women's competitions.
Rocherlea, Old Scotch and University of Tasmania will play in seniors only, while George Town is fielding a side in the under-21s league, where 16 players must be under-21 and eight are allowed to be over-age.
Most of the competition's senior matches will get underway on Saturdays at 1.30pm, while four Friday night matches will be played under lights - with Scottsdale to host two for the first time and Rocherlea and Invermay Park taking the others.
The shield is set to get underway on July 18, playing for nine weeks until September 12, with each competition to feature two preliminary finals on September 19 with the winners going through to the grand final the following weekend.
The make up of the opt-in competition was officially announced on June 25, with the official NTFA season called off early last month due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
Deloraine coach and reigning Hec Smith medallist Lochy Dornauf led the charge with getting the NTFA shield off the ground, saying the clubs involved took a "very optimistic approach".

"Obviously we revert back to the usual standings next year, but for this year it's just building such a good feel about this competition and we expect that to be reflected in the crowd numbers - currently it's 500 but who knows?" he said.
The competition will feature shorter quarters for the players, with seniors to play 25 minutes flat, under-21s 20 and women 15 with 10-minute half-time breaks and five-minute quarter-time intervals.
A 15-minute break between games will occur for cleaning protocols.
