Free buses have been available since March, aimed at minimising contact between drivers and passengers during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic in Tasmania.
The Department of State Growth has encouraged public transport users to top-up their smartcard, which can help continue to minimise interactions.
In other news:
If there's no smartcard option possible or available, State Growth has said users will be asked to purchase 10 ride tickets in an effort to reduce transactions.
Cash will be accepted by drivers once the amnesty ends.
Bus users have been encouraged to carry the correct amount of change, should cash be the only option.
