Mystic Journey was to have tackled the group 1 Sangster Stakes and Mystical Pursuit the group 3 South Australian Oaks.

Trinder said that the coronavirus restrictions would not have prevented the horses travelling to Adelaide for the May 2 races.

However they could not have been accompanied by their own handlers and owner Wayne Roser was not prepared to take that option.

"Wayne was adamant that they wouldn't be going without me so we've sent them to the paddock," the trainer said.

"They've both gone out in good order and we're looking forward to the spring."

Trinder said he had achieved his main goal with Mystic Journey by giving her a run in the William Reid Stakes at Moonee Valley 11 days ago.

Not only did her fast-finishing fifth to Loving Gaby in the group 1 sprint show that she had lost nothing during an enforced layoff but it avoided a situation where she may have gone for 12 months without racing.

For racing to continue, it's essential everyone involved in the industry adheres to the coronavirus restrictions.

For example, being a licensed participant, be it a stable employee or anything else, does not automatically entitle anyone to be at the races.

Only those that are actually working are allowed to be there. And they must leave as soon as their duties have finished.

Trainers have a responsibility to keep their raceday staff to a bare minimum. Taking family members to the races, under the guise of staff, is not in the spirit of the regulations.

Harness racing participants experiencing difficulties during the coronavirus crisis have been urged to reach out for help.

They can contact the Breeders, Owners, Trainers and Reinspersons Association.

President Barrie Rattray said he was available at any time on his mobile (0418 138 575).

"BOTRA is in a position to help anyone if needed," he said.

"This is related to animal welfare in particular, but it could be anything."

Most harness trainers are not full-time and, if they have lost their outside jobs, they may be finding it difficult to look after their horses.

Rattray said it appeared that all coronavirus protocols were being followed at the races.

"Everyone must adhere to the guidelines ... we are in trying times that will be here for some time," he said.

Harness racing this week is at Devonport on Friday night and Mowbray on Sunday.
