The street will be lined with food stalls, gelato, coffee, Ferraris and a stage hosting live music from Paterson Street to Brisbane Street from 12pm to 5pm.
Festival organiser Marcel Ritchie said it was the festival's fourth time in the city but this year it had changed locations.
"It just made sense to move it to George Street," he said.
"There's a lot of support from the food outlets in the street, so we're going to have a lot of different places open.
"So although it's an Italian festival you can get a little bit of Mexican or some Turkish food.
IN OTHER NEWS:
"The biggest thing is just to sit back, relax, enjoy the music and be able to sit in the middle of the street and choose what you feel like eating."
Mr Ritchie said for safety precautions the section of George Street would be closed from 6am to 10pm.
The street will be lined with tables and the event will include some family-friendly activities.
The day will kick off with acoustic music before featuring Italian music from the Tassie Tenor from 12.30pm to 2.30pm and later venturing into mainstream numbers.
