University of Tasmania Vice-Chancellor Rufus Black led a team of rowers to victory at the annual North vs South Rowing Race on Sunday.

Black and the Northern rowers squared off against University of Tasmania chief operating officer David Clerk, representing the south, and his rowers.
For the third year in a row, the north claimed the title.

Black was given a minute and a half handicap based on the strength and experience of each rowing team, but still won by one minute and 45 seconds.
There was also the River Run, the first time a running loop has been added to the day, which started and finished at the Peppers Silo Hotel, and took in the Tamar where the rowing race was occurring.
Eighty students based in Hobart travelled to Launceston as a cheer squad.
"The event brings together people from the north and the south to celebrate participation in sport and strengthen links between the university and the community," UTAS communications officer Ben Wild said.
