After a promising pre-season, the 30-year-old ex-Giant suffered the third serious knee injury of his career during a VFL practice match, ruling him out for the rest of the year.
Announcing his retirement on Thursday evening, the Launceston premiership player was given a warm send-off by Hawthorn football boss Graham Wright.

"It's obviously a disappointing way for Tim to finish his AFL career," Wright said.
"However, the way he has carried himself around the club and set an example for his teammates has been commendable.
"We thank Tim for his contribution over the last 12 months and wish him well."
Mohr arrived at the Hawks through the rookie draft late last year after being delisted by the Giants after seven seasons.
He finishes his career with 48 games and one goal.
Mohr's departure leaves Hawthorn without a Tasmanian on its list for the first time since 2004.
