Carlton has hosted the popular LAFM program since 2015.
On Sunday, he was quoted in a statement from Tasmanian Broadcasters saying he would be stepping away from the role for personal reasons.
IN OTHER NEWS:
Carlton addressed Tasmania Talks listeners at the beginning of Monday morning's show.
But following a brief statement, the rest of the three-hour time-slot was filled with music.
Later in the morning, Carlton posted a one-word message to his Twitter followers, simply saying, 'Gone'.
Tasmanian Broadcasters executive general manager Tim Holder said on Monday that Carlton had finished up at LAFM earlier than anticipated.
"Tasmanian Broadcasters wishes to advise that Brian Carlton will not be resuming with Tasmania Talks," he said.
"We are proud of the achievements of the show and are appreciative of Brian and the Tasmania Talks team [for] making the show the success it has become.
"We thank Brian Carlton for his service to the company and wish him well for the future."
Holder said arrangements were in place for Tuesday's program, which will be helmed by an interim host.
"And then we'll be regrouping and exploring options," he said.
Holder said there were "a number of options" in regards to recruitment for the hosting job but did not elaborate further.
