Planning is currently different in each local government area, with the Hodgman government working to build a state-wide scheme.
The letter from the council provides an explanation about the proposed change and contact details for further information about how the property is impacted, general manager Michael Stretton said.
"Because there have been changes to the types of zones in the state planning provisions, there are a number of properties impacted - predominantly only in the name of the zone that their property falls within, with minimal impact on the range of uses and development standards that apply," he said.
"For others, there will be some minor change to what is permitted or discretionary, or prohibited, within the new zone."

Most properties will be changed from Inner Residential Zone to General Residential Zone.
"It must be stressed that for most people there will be minimal impact and we really encourage them to contact us if they want further explanation regarding their specific property," Mr Stretton said.
A formal community consultation and advertising period once the local provisions are finalised, endorsed by the council and lodged with the Tasmanian Planning Commission, will allow landowners to submit written representations.
Sending out letters to landowners is not a requirement in the legislation. Anyone with further questions about the letter's contents is asked to contact the number provided.
