Hemp Association of Tasmania is set to celebrate

The productive and profitable season for the state's hemp farmers saw more than 1500 tonnes of seed produced and will be celebrated at the Hemp Association of Tasmania (HATas) industry dinner.

HATas president Tim Schmidt said a key part of the dinner would be the launching of the HATas Certified hemp branding.

"This will give Tasmanian hemp a unified logo to help create our marketing position, drive provenance and give us an edge over our competition. Paving the way for a strong future in Tasmanian hemp."

Before the dinner, there will be an industry round-table review, which will include all major stakeholders.

"Things we would like to address is, for instance, the sale of hemp mulch. There's a great market for that, which is being held back because of legislation. In the longer term, there is a huge global market for CBD (cannabidiol) and an emerging market in that area," Mr Schmidt said.

"There are many different facets of the plant that can be utilised and marketed. We don't have the capacity to do right now, but with changes in the legislation to free up the industry even further than what it already has, would put us in a situation where we could take advantage of that.

"I must admit we have had magnificent support from the government and the community in developing the industry... we just want to get that strong consolidation of growth happening."

The event will also feature a top crop competition and session in conjunction with Southern Farming Systems. The session will focus on how to create better yields and generate better returns. There will be an award for the grower with the best crop.

The dinner will be a three-course hemp-infused meal to highlight the industry.
