The man raped the girl, who both cannot be named for legal reasons, during a sleepover held by a group of teenagers on a country property in February 2018 when he was 17.
The man pleaded guilty to one charge of rape by digital penetration.
A jury found him guilty of two additional charges of rape and two charges of indecent assault.
The girl gave evidence during the trial with Chief Justice Alan Blow describing her as an "impressive witness".
"It was clear from her evidence she didn't like him ... she was paralyzed with fear," Chief Justice Blow said.
The court heard the victim had suffered adverse psychological impacts as the result of the sexual assault, including impacting her school performance so severely she no longer thinks she can attend university at this stage of her life or join the Australian Defence Force.
Chief Justice Blow said the man, given his age and the fact he had no prior convictions, should receive a "significantly more lenient" sentence than an adult.
A prison term would be particularly dreadful for the man, who had lived with his mother prior to being remanded for this matter, Chief Justice Blow said.
The man will be eligible for parole after serving 15 months' jail.
