He told a budget estimates hearing that East Tamar, Waratah-Wynyard and Sorell would be the first three centres to be built as part of a $21 million investment over six years.

"I'm pleased to announce that the school sites are Sorell School, Table Cape Primary School and East Tamar Primary School and $500,000 has been allocated in the 2019-20 Budget to start the construction process," Mr Rockliff said.

"Based on the success of the 12 existing Child and Family Centres across the state, CFLCs provide a critical service to their communities; bringing learning, play, social and child health services together.

"Community engagement will take place before, during and after construction to ensure each centre meets the ongoing needs of its community."

Mr Rockliff said the centres would provide access to services for families with young children including health support and outreach, early childhood education and care facilities through partnerships with the early childhood education and care sector.

He told the hearing that job creating infrastructure was a centrepiece of this year's budget.

"A total of $1.6 billion will be delivered, in partnership with the Morrison Federal Coalition Government, to build the transport infrastructure our growing state needs," Mr Rockliff said.

He said as well as continuing projects already underway, a number of new projects will get underway in the coming year alone, including:

New projects to begin at Spring Hill, and Melton Mowbray to Lovely Banks as part of the Midland Highway 10 Year Action Plan;

The first projects under the West Tamar Traffic solution including upgraded junctions and a safer highway for bikes between Brisbane Street and Legana;

Next stages of the Richmond Road Masterplan, including the new Cambridge Link Road;

A new roundabout upgrade on the East Tamar Highway at the Mowbray Connector, and safer junctions at Gleadow and Goderich Streets;

Improvements on the Great Eastern Drive and Bruny Island Main Road under the Visitor Roads program;

Strengthening another seven bridges around the state under the Freight Access Bridge Upgrades program; Pipers River Bridge, Little Forester River Flood Opening, Humphrey Rivulet Bridge, North West Bay River Bridge, Leslie Road Underpass, Berriedale Rail underpass; and Barossa Creek Bridge;

The new flyover Hobart Airport Interchange upgrade;

The overtaking lane on the Arthur Highway at Iron Creek, one of the first projects under the South East Traffic Solution program; and

Upgrading the junction to provide safer access to Boat Harbour school on the Bass Highway.
