In a statement, Hydro Tasmania's director of wholesale energy services Gerard Flack confirmed that the interconnector was downed by a converter station fault on Sunday.
"Bass Link Pty Ltd have advised that this is not a cable fault and their engineering team is focussed on diagnosis, rectification and return to service," Mr Flack said.
Mr Flack continued by saying that Hydro storages are approximately 33 per cent full which is very healthy and there is no need for concern.
In 2015, the Basslink Interconnector was downed after a cable deteriorated from overheating causing Basslink to be down for a number of months.
