The event will be held in Launceston later this year.
About 700 karate champions from all over the nation are expected to attend the event.
The council will give the championship, being organised by the Australian Karate Federation, $15,000.
The request was approved unanimously at its meeting on Thursday.
The championships will be held at the Silverdome in August.
In addition to the competition, there will also be a variety of martial art demonstrations.
