George Town Council has voted against a motion to introduce two ceremonies at the beginning of council meetings.

One being an acknowledgement of country, showing respect to the traditional Aboriginal owners of the land.
The other was a Christian prayer of blessing.
George Town deputy mayor Tim Harris said the motion was dismissed largely due to the prayer, noting that George Town consists of a number of religions.
