It's been 15 years since the singer walked off the Australian Idol stage.
Just 21 at the time, he admitted being "slightly overwhelmed" by the music industry he was launched into.
Now seven albums later, the 36-year-old is ready to show fans a different, more personal side to his music.
Callea's national tour 'Unplugged and Unfiltered' will hit Launceston on June 1.
Performing in a stripped back setting, he described it as the tour he has always wanted to do and promised fans would get to know the real Anthony Callea.
"For me, getting up on stage and stripping back songs and getting to the essence of it - the backbone I suppose, with melody and lyric - I think is a really beautiful thing," he said.
"Back in the early days of me walking onto that idol stage and walking off that idol stage ... I just remember I was very overwhelmed.
"There is so many people around you, it's a big machine.
"You've got people saying - 'say this, do this, dress like that, sing like this.
"As you get older and with experience, you realise that you don't have to be that filtered. And that sometimes doesn't work."
Since being launched onto the world stage, Callea has toured with the likes of Celine Dion, Diana Ross and Whitney Houston.
He has also performed for the late Pavarotti, and for Her Majesty, The Queen, with his rendition of The Prayer becoming Australia's highest and fasted selling single.
Growing up in an Italian family, Callea said there was never any room for a filter in his personal life.
This tour, he said, was about bringing that element to his music.
"When I put a show like this together, it is so personal and it is so honest and so truthful," he said.
"I want to put myself in an audience member's shoes.
"Because when I go and watch a concert, what do I want to feel.
"I want to feel, yes I am being connected with the music, but I want to walk away knowing something about that person.
"The whole concept for this tour is hopefully, getting to know me a bit more, and me getting to know my audience."
- Anthony Callea, 'Unplugged And Unfiltered', will be at Country Club Launceston on Saturday, June 1. Tickets are available through ticketmaster.
