CAPTAIN: Jarrah Burns
INS: Joe Boyce (Launceston), Joseph Krushka, Nathaniel Barnett, Jakeb Whelan (Scottsdale) Scott Fenton (George Town), Cale Burke (returning) Luke Fisher (Rocherlea) Luke Grey (St Pats)
OUTS: Tom Martello (Travelling)
LAST YEAR: Eighth
COACH SAYS: We feel as though we are in a better place than last year with an influx of quality players.
We felt like we weren't too far off the money in regards to finals football last year, so our players are up and about and keen to improve on last year's result.
We've recruited well to cover the loss of former captain and best and fairest Tom Martello and we aim to be playing finals footy provided we keep fit and play our brand.
EAST COAST
COACH: Ned Hyland
CO-CAPTAINS: Lewis Ritchie and Pearce Robinson
INS: Shaun Bartlett (Masters Tasmania), Nicholas Denholm (South Launceston), Chae Evans (Old Launcestonians/North Launceston), David Wickham (Interstate), Clinton Robinson (AFL Queensland), Marcus Haley (Hillwood), Matthew Lowe (South Launceston), Chandler Robinsons, Corey Willis (Returning), Brady Fredrickson (Interstate)
OUTS: Anthony Marshall (Devonport)
LAST YEAR: Premiers
COACH SAYS: Being the reigning premiers, we know that all the other sides will be gunning for us. So we have to work harder and the hunger to succeed hasn't left the playing group.
The gap between last year's weak and strong teams will certainly lessen with other clubs gaining strength across the board, making for a quality competition.
Our new players have fitted in nicely to our team culture. We believe that if we have a strong culture, the rest will take care of itself and we get out of the group what we put in.
EVANDALE
COACH: James Storay
CO-CAPTAINS: Tyler Brown and Jason Bennett.
INS: Tim and Anthony Walker (Longford), Shaun Collis, Billy Jack (Returning), Jye Tyrell (Tamar Cats), Sam Bouwman (West Coburg), Keiran Carlton (Prospect Hawks), John French (Launceston), Matt Black (Bracknell), Jack Maher (South Launceston), Kaleb Thomas (North Launceston)
OUTS: James Miller (Melbourne), Wawrick Johnson (Overseas), Mitch Stagg (Longford), Alex Langridge (Campania), Seb Woof (Injury), Sam Bannister (Hillwood)
LAST YEAR: Runners Up
COACH SAYS: We feel as though our list has certainly improved from last year, but in saying that, the rest of the competition seems to as well.
Making the Grand Final last year was obviously massive for our boys and idea is to do it once again. In order to do that, we want to finish top three but last year proved you can win the premiership from outside those spots.
The new guys have gelled really well. There's 4/5 players that knew each other previously and Jack Maher is a previous Evandale player so he, as well as the other players we have recruited, will work together and structure nicely for our club.
LILYDALE
COACH: Colin Lockhart
CAPTAIN: Corey Lockett
INS: Zac Barwick (Rocherlea), Sonny Whiting (Launceston/South Launceston), Braidyn Dawe (School Football), Brad Rayner, Tom Grimes, Brendan Hawes (Returning)
OUTS: None
LAST YEAR: Third
COACH SAYS: We are pretty confident this is our best list within the last four years, and in those four years we've had some handy results (win, runner up and third) so hopefully this year brings some of the same.
We've kept a pretty similar list and added with new recruits including Zac Barwick, a smooth player from Rocherlea and Braidyn Dawe, a powerful player with a rugby background.
Assistant coach Thane Bardenhagen has been killing it. Last year he had his season interrupted by a European trip, and came back a bit under the weather, so he's been putting in 110 per cent on the track. In 2017 he was named association's best and fairest so that's the calibre of player he is.
MEANDER VALLEY
COACH: Damien Rhind
CAPTAIN: TBA
INS: Damien Rhind, Lyndon Hampton (Perth), Dylan Riley (Launceston), Callum Harrison (North Launceston), Matt Nicholson, Kane Brugeaud, Marc Davey (Tamar Cats), Jordyn Blizzard (NWFA), Aaron Saltmarsh (Campbell Town), Fergus Lawrence
OUTS: None
LAST YEAR: Ninth
COACH SAYS: Being a first year coach with all the current players as well as the recruits, it might take a month or so for game plans to adapt, but once that's all out of the way we are certainly aiming to make finals.
The State League guys, such as Dylan Riley and Callum Harrison as well as the Tamar Cats guys are certainly a positive influence on the group and have joined the group really well.
OLD SCOTCH
COACH: Shaun Muller
CO-CAPTAINS: Jonty Swallow and Tom Pedley
INS: James McCowan (North Launceston), Ryan Sherriff, Josh Thompson (Hillwood), Nathaniel Suidgeest (Rocherlea), Logan Reid (East Launceston Junior), Will Tatchell (Returning)
OUTS: Casey Young (Ballarat), Jock Darke (Hutchins), Ryan Worn (Canberra), James Lee (England), Sam Burrill (Retired), Arie Dumesi (Victoria)
LAST YEAR: Seventh
COACH SAYS: We've had an excellent pre-season so far with good numbers across the board. A bunch of the players we've had return have been in and around the club before so it's good to have them return and build the culture.
The players that have returned have made comments about how easy the transition has been and we feel that it's easy to train well when our players fit in. Some of the younger players have really stood up throughout the pre-season and the rest of the players have been challenging themselves to be better, so we see ourselves improving on last year.
OLD LAUNCESTONIANS
COACH: Paul Beechey
CAPTAIN: TBA
INS: Approximately five players
OUTS: Similar to the Ins, about five players, mainly heading to uni or back to Hobart where they originally came from.
LAST YEAR: Sixth
COACH SAYS: Losing those players wasn't an ideal situation for us as we would have loved to build upon where we left off but in my second year here as coach, we feel as though we are in a better position than last year. We are still developing, still a bit green, but certainly ready to improve on the sixth position last year.
Cam Fraser stands out as one that's had a really strong pre-season. He's been hitting the gym a fair bit now, which has become obvious in our strength sessions. Field Reeves is another ones, coming back from a disastrous broken jaw last year, he's recovered really well and is raring to go for another big year on the park.
PERTH
COACH: Josh Holton
CAPTAIN: Ethan Brown
INS: Daniel Cox, Corey Rhodes, Alex Cadman (Rocherlea), Jesse Tunks (Tamar Cats), Jake Cairns (Campbell Town)
OUTS: Damien Rhind (Meander Valley)
LAST YEAR: Fifth
COACH SAYS: This year the two main goals are to be more competitive, closing the gap between our best and worst footy and to win a final. We've made finals in the past couple of years and bombed out first week, so winning a final would be an awesome feeling for the boys.
Both Nathan Croft and Ethan Brown have been dominant throughout the preseason. Both are key players within our midfield, with this being Crofty's second year at the club and Browny's been captain here for the past four so it's been good to see the fire still burning.
ST PATS
CO-COACHES: Alex Russell and Jake Laskey
CAPTAIN: Tom Hilder
INS: Jacob Parker (Tamar Cats), Jono Smart (Rocherlea), Brady McIntyre (Returning), Tom Allison (Old Scotch)
OUTS: None
LAST YEAR: Minor Premiers
COACH SAYS: This pre-season has been the best we've had since I've been involved with the club. The players have been really driven since last year's final series and excited to improve their work rate at the same time.
Jacob Murphy is one to look out for this year. He's improved his strength and skills, which is potentially really dangerous for the other sides in the competition.
Obviously our list hasn't had too many changes and we've always been focused on retention rather than recruitment. We feel that speaks volumes of our culture as the boys were ready to resign from last year and their commitment and attendance at pre-season has been fantastic.
UNI-MOWBRAY
COACH: Alan Perrin
CAPTAIN: Hayden Chrzanowski
INS: Leigh Chugg, Braeden Worker, Brad Tuffin, Ben Nicholson, Sam Martin, Tyson Harris, Tyson Burns, Mick Davis, Aaron Bird, Kye Moore, Will Geysing, Sean Barker, Jacob Bonney, Mahendrin Khishdendorn, James Harris
OUTS: Approximately 20 players through injury and transfer.
LAST YEAR: Eleventh
COACH SAYS: It's been quite a long pre-season and have been happy with the way the boys are travelling . We've recruited fairly actively as our list changes do suggest but it's still going to be a tough task when we find ourselves up against the top five regulars such as East Coast and St Pats.
With so many new players, potentially the most out of any of the NTFA clubs with 71 registered players, it's been good to see them build a new and buy into our existing club culture. As the University didn't start until about February, a lot of our players have really only just joined the club but the uni blokes get along well with both themselves and the others here prior. It's commendable to see a bunch of almost strangers combine as well as these boys have.
