The departed Launceston Tornadoes star missed out on a second championship opportunity inside six months.
Nicholson’s underdog Adelaide Lightning went down 93-73 on the road in game three to Canberra Capitals.
The WNBL grand finalists traded points in the first half with Canberra holding on to a slender four-point lead at the long interval.
But the home side won the final two terms by eight points each to earn a record eighth national title.
Nicholson was held to 10 points in the final series loss.
The 25-year-old, who will now chase a European contract this Australian winter instead of returning to the Torns, would finish the series with a 14.7 points average.
Nicholson had scored 24 points in Launceston’s 119-96 SEABL grand final defeat to Bendigo back in August.
She ended the year as the last-ever SEABL female MVP.
The Lightning lost twice in Canberra by 21 and 20 points, but the side would not have reached the decider had it not been for Nicholson’s final play in game two.
