Tasmania Police worked with the Department of Primary Industries, Parks, Water and Environment in relation to the reported dolphin carcass at Peron Sand Dunes near St Helens.
During the early stages of the investigation, DPIPWE said the use of a firearm could not be ruled out.
However, Tasmania Police said determining the exact cause of death is unlikely because of the dolphin’s level of decomposition.
“Injuries reported on the carcass are consistent with post-mortem injuries sometimes seen on deceased marine animals and can be caused by other species feeding on the carcass,” Tasmania Police said.
“At this stage there is no information to indicate further investigation is necessary.”
However, anyone with any information should call Police on 131 444.
The dolphin was found on Maurouard Beach at Peron Dunes on December 31.
Police said both organisations are also aware of a similar situation involving a dolphin found dead near Bridport.
