EARLIER: Tasmania Police have closed a Hobart Street while they investigate an unidentified object.
Hunter Street between Davey Street and MacQ1 Hotel on Hobart’s waterfront has been closed to vehicle and foot traffic while the investigation is under way.
The street has been closed as a safety precaution, and police have urged for the public to remain calm.
A Tasmania Police spokesperson said no buildings have been evacuated but people have been asked to avoid the street until further notice.
The traffic on Davey Street is not affected by the road closure.
The spokesperson said an update will be provided once the object has been assessed but there was no more information at this stage.
