A car crashed about 4.40am on Thursday on the Bass Highway at Travellers Rest.
Police said it appears the grey Mazda hatchback left the side of the road and hit a cement curb.
At the time, police said they had “grave concerns” for the driver.
“Given the serious nature of the crash, it is possible the driver could have serious injuries,” Sergeant Gavin Chugg said.
Police searched nearby bushland.
The road was blocked for a number of hours after the incident occurred, and opened to one lane about 8am.
Information about the crash should be reported to police on 131 444, or anonymously to Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
